Yesterday we took an unexpected trip to the beach to see the Iven family. J has wanted me to come to this event for years. I now know why it is so special to her. The weekend event includes a sandcastle contest, the famous begonia float parade, and movies on the beach. We amazingly left the house by 8:30 am with all the kids and stuff. A quick adventure to the "Barrels" (that will take a whole blog entry itself to describe) The husband went along with that adventure too. We arrived at the beach house and took a walk

along the river to

see boxes and boxes and boxes of begonias ready to be tied to their floats. They were so beautiful. I never knew begonia blossoms to be so big. It seemed like spring in Capitola. Every house had either two-colored Morning
Glories, begonias, or nasturtiums growing crazy. The weather is perfect for these cool weather beauties. When we got to the beach the sandcastle or sculptures were in full swing. The kids loved seeing all the different things. Everything from Spongbob to goddess' with an occasional sea monster. When the sun went down the movie screen went up. They were playing Hook right on the beach. Lots of locals got to enjoy the cool breeze and free popcorn as we bundled up and ate pizza-by-the-slice. I wasn't prepared and my feet were frozen. The drive home rocked us all to sleep (except S, he had to drive) It was a long day at the beach. Next year we're staying for the parade.

Looks and sounds like a wonderful day! I remember seeing sandcastles on the beach when we were kids. Must have been that same event.
BTW, like the new look to your blog. The peach/orange text is a little hard to read though. Sorry.
